The day after the October 12, 2025 presidential vote, Issa Tchiroma Bakary claimed victory and called on incumbent Paul Biya to step down.
“Our victory is clear, it must be respected,” the opposition candidate said in a video posted to Facebook, urging the head of state to “accept the truth of the ballot box” rather than “plunge the country into turmoil.”
The announcement came before official results were released and marked a turning point in the post-election campaign.
