Full biography
Roots and training
Issa Tchiroma Bakary was born in 1949 in Garoua, in the North Region of Cameroon. Raised in a region marked by cultural diversity and the meeting of languages, he grew up at the crossroads of Sahelian traditions and the modern dynamics of the country.
Trained as an engineer, he chose the transportation sector — a strategic field for a Cameroon seeking to connect its regions and build economic unity.
A life in service of the nation
Issa Tchiroma Bakary's public career spans more than four decades. His first ministerial post came in 1992. He later served as Minister of Communication and government spokesman, and then as Minister of Employment and Vocational Training. At each stage, he carried the voice of the state and accompanied the country's economic and social transformations.
This long experience gave him an intimate knowledge of the workings of the Cameroonian administration, the expectations of the regions, and the structural challenges of a country rich in potential.
A commitment to a new Cameroon
In 2025, after more than thirty years in office, Issa Tchiroma Bakary chose to break with the past. He left the government, founded a citizen movement, and stood for the presidential election under the banner of “The People's Choice.”
His proposition: a restored democracy, an affirmed rule of law, institutions in service of the people, and a development that lifts every region — from the Sahel to the Atlantic, from the anglophone highlands to the equatorial forests.
